ISCC PLUS certificate
FKuR has been awarded the ISCC PLUS certificate as a "Trader without storage", marking another milestone on the road to a sustainable and more climate-friendly plastics industry. ISCC certification confirms the traceability and sustainability of raw materials along the entire supply chain - from origin to end product. For our customers, this means greater transparency, more security and the certainty that the certified materials are obtained and processed in accordance with the highest ecological and social standards.

ISCC PLUS certification completed for Polykemi and Scanfill
An obvious step in a conscious market The ISCC PLUS certification is part of the Polykemi Group’s global efforts for a progressive and sustainable industry, but also a natural effect of increasing customer awareness. ”We need to be able to show what we are doing to reduce the carbon footprint of our materials. It’s not a request from customers anymore, it’s a requirement. The certification enables us to offer high-performance materials that reduce the amount of fossil raw material and ultimately the climate footprint,” says Jörgen Andersson, Quality and Environmental Manager at Polykemi Group. Bio-based and bio-circular materials become traceable Bio-based refers to any material whose raw material is derived from plants (e.g. corn or sugar cane), while bio-circular refers to the part of bio-based material whose raw material comes from biological residues (e.g. used frying oil from the restaurant industry or waste from the forestry industry). ”Technically, we have been able to offer this type of both bio-based and bio-circular materials before, but now with certificates specifying how much biomaterial our supplier used in their process, and how much we then used in our materials, we can provide the customer with a traceable, accurate receipt of the content,” says Jörgen Andersson. Launching new certified materials At the same time as the certification, Polykemi launches two new materials in the NATUCOMP material family. The materials are two types of bio-circular PP compounds produced from mass balanced raw material. ”The difference in material quality between our bio-circular PP compounds and conventional PP compounds, is actually none at all. The materials have the same technical performance. The difference lies in the used proportion of fossil-based raw material, which is lower in the bio-circular materials, thus resulting a lower climate impact,” says Jörgen Andersson.

KPA and Kuteno 2025: Plastics industry in dialogue - Between proven concepts and new approaches
Granula Polymer presented a somewhat different type of cleaning granulate in Donaustadt. Specifically, it was the product Grana Clean Uni Green. Managing Director Dr. Eva-Maria Langhammer explained: "Our Grana Clean Uni Green has a negative CO2 footprint of -0.8 CO2 equivalents per kilogram. Even if the cleaner were ineffective, we would still achieve a positive climate balance due to the CO2 reduction." The company specializes, among other things, in sustainable cleaning granulates based on biodegradable ingredients. By using biobast as a raw material, they offer an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional cleaning granulates. "Our goal is not only to increase efficiency in plastics processing, but also to actively contribute to environmental protection," emphasized Langhammer. The product was developed in collaboration with the Lüdenscheid Plastics Institute, which calculated and confirmed the CO2 equivalents.

LOCKING WEDGE WITH PRESSURE PLATE
Locking wedges are used as mechanical elements in toolmaking to precisely position and fix slides when closing the mould. While the locking wedge moves the components into the correct working position, the pressure plate supports the slide and ensures that it can withstand the high forces during the injection process. When manufacturing components with undercuts or other complex geometries, repeatable and stable support of the slide elements should be ensured. If the wedge angle is too large, the holding force is reduced and the slide can move slightly during injection. This in turn leads to burr formation on the component. Wedge angles that are set too small lock the slide very tightly, but at the same time also cause unnecessarily high wear and, in the worst case, even breakage. The precise coordination of the wedge and the contact surface is therefore of crucial importance. FINE TUNING WITHOUT DETOURS – The vario concept Time is a key factor for efficiency and competitiveness. The locking wedge VARIO solution enables precise adjustment directly on the injection moulding machine – without time-consuming dismounting. Adjustments can be made with minimal effort, significantly reducing downtime.

Major investment brings totally new recycling opportunities
Ystad-based Rondo Plast has invested almost one million euros in a new plastic compactor, that compresses production waste, and a new cutting machine. With its capacity to process more than 4,000 tonnes of material per year, the plastic compactor provides the company with new possibilities. “Thanks to the investment, we can now handle more recyclable plastic fractions and production waste from our suppliers than before,” says Patrik Lindqvist, strategic buyer at Rondo Plast. “In some cases, this type of material was previously discarded as combustible waste, but now we can upgrade and reuse it in our production of high-quality recycled plastic compounds.” Increased number of sources and suppliers Since 1980, Rondo Plast has specialized in the development and manufacture of customized plastic compounds made of recycled raw materials. The new plastic compactor is located in the production site in Ystad and is the first of its kind to be acquired by Polykemi Group. The compactor processes good quality industrial waste, including fiber, ropes, non-woven, plastic film, labels, dust and shavings. “It is a totally new production technology for us that allows us to handle a significantly wider range of materials, which we were unable to process before due to their shape or low density,” Lindqvist explains. “It not only gives us access to more sources and increases the number of suppliers, but it is also an even more sustainable way to work.” Part of the investment consists of an additional cutting machine that enables the handling of longer or tangled pieces of fiber and rope. This investment not only means new material sources in a usable shape in the compactor, but also increases the capacity and streamlines the general recycling activities for Rondo Plast.

Material recognition with the handheld device from trinamiX GmbH
The path to a circular economy begins with sorting One of the biggest challenges on our path to a circular economy is the lack of high-quality recycling worldwide. A key element on the path to a circular economy lies in the first step of the recycling process: proper on-site sorting of plastic waste. For this purpose, there are tools for on-site analysis of various plastic types, consisting of mobile NIR spectroscopy combined with data analysis and materials expertise to identify and differentiate a wide range of plastic types, to support the path to a circular economy. We would be happy to show you the mobile handheld device in a live demonstration at our booth. SPOILER: Even black plastics can be identified – provided the conditions are met.

Meerwert - Compound based on bioplastic and red algae
GreenFoilNature GmbH harnesses the green power of algae to create a sustainable alternative to conventional plastics. They have developed innovative compounds based on natural algae by incorporating macroalgae as a natural filler into our compounds. These algae grow in saline or treated wastewater, for example, requiring minimal resources and producing large amounts of biomass. In doing so, they bind CO₂ and release oxygen. The developed GFN compounds not only reduce CO₂ emissions but are also biodegradable and recyclable. They are also suitable for extrusion and injection molding and have every chance of meeting all relevant EU regulations, including those for direct food contact and the SUPD. This creates materials that combine ecological responsibility with industrial applicability – a real step towards a more sustainable future!

Minimize costs and the carbon footprint with cleaning granules
How can the cleaning process in injection molding be made more efficient and sustainable? A benchmarking by Granula Polymer shows that cleaning granules can save time, costs and resources - without compromising on quality. Granula Polymer, which specializes in the development and manufacture of patented cleaning granules, reports on a case study in which a user was able to successfully save costs when changing colors by using the universally applicable Grana Clean Uni. As part of a Advertisement benchmarking, the user tested ten commercial cleaning granules in the injection molding process. Criteria such as purchase price, effectiveness, service and environmental aspects were weighted differently, with effectiveness being given the greatest importance at 40%. The effectiveness was assessed based on the cleaning time required, the amount of granules and the cleanliness achieved - measured on a residue-free screw after a color change with blue ABS. The "environment" criterion took into account aspects such as ingredients that are hazardous to health or the environment. The conclusion of the benchmarking: Switching to Grana Clean Uni resulted in cost savings in the low four-digit range. The cleaner is easy to use: no exposure time, a combination of chemical and mechanical additives and a propellant ensure quick and thorough results. In addition, the granulate is odorless and ready for immediate use. Clean and save money Granula Polymer supports users in calculating potential savings, for example when changing colors and materials or during regular machine maintenance. In addition to costs, the CO2 footprint and waste can also be significantly reduced.
