    1. New PFAS-free process additives

PFAS – polyfluorinated alkyl compounds – are being discussed because this group of substances is almost impossible to degrade. They are therefore also referred to as ‘forever chemicals’. These PFAS accumulate and can accumulate in the environment, in humans and in animals. The aim and purpose of PFAS processing aids in thermoplastic applications are, for example: Prevention of nozzle bearding Reduction of shark skin (melt fracture) Temperature resistance in processes up to 290 °C Good printability or coating MLPlastics has alternative processing aids in its portfolio that are PFAS- and silicone-free and still have a positive effect on the process and result as usual. Our products are food-compliant. Please contact our application developers, we will be happy to help you.

Because the circular economy is more than just buzzwords. It saves resources and money, reduces waste, and is simply good for our environment!

    3. New scratch resistant PP-materials in new COMPLUS Concept

New scratch resistant PP-materials in new COMPLUS Concept

The newly developed and virgin raw material based compound POLYfill PP EP317R UV has both high scratch resistance and UV stability, together with excellent mechanical properties and unlimited colouration possibilities. These features makes the material an optimum choice for interior automotive applications. The material also has three new siblings right from the start, based on both virgin plastic raw material and high-quality recycled plastic raw material. The four new materials have similar characteristics and properties that are adapted to the requirement profiles of different parts in an assembled product. The newly developed materials are presented in the new COMPLUS Concept that Polykemi and Rondo Plast have informed about recently. Door panels as an example of a suitable application An example within the automotive industry is door panels, which are often complex assemblies consisting of e.g. carrier, door insert, armrest and side pocket – all with their individual specific requirement profiles. In this application, all four material alternatives within the COMPLUS PP Concept can be used. Flexibility even late in the project process The COMPLUS Concept means that you can choose the right material for the right parts. But even if you have made a correct material choice, the conditions can still change during the course of a project. Then there is the unique opportunity to choose another of the four materials late in the project process, since the characteristics and properties are so similar. This can be done without having to modify or change the moulds – a fact that saves both time and costs. – The material change can be done without jeopardizing either mechanical properties or quality, the materials are quite simply exchangeable. This is the concept we have now developed, explains Anette Munch Elmér.

    4. New Zephyr III 300 3D scanner: unmatched productivity for large-scale parts

New Zephyr III 300 3D scanner: unmatched productivity for large-scale parts

The flagship innovation of the Zephyr III 300 lies in its 300mm laser line, which allows for scanning at twice the speed of the Zephyr III 150. With the Zephyr III 300, the number of scanner passes needed to scan the same part is reduced by half. This increased speed translates into significant time savings, especially when inspecting large-scale parts. Large-scale measuring machines dedicated to the inspection of very large parts, whether they are gantry or horizontal arm systems, with a granite table or free-standing, will benefit greatly from the increased productivity offered by the Zephyr III 300 scanner. The automation capabilities of the Zephyr III contribute to supporting this maximum productivity, both through hardware compatibility with the ACR3 auto-change rack and the motorized PH10 indexing head, as well as software compatibility enabling machine control and data processing in a single software. The Zephyr III 300 scanner can also be used with Kreon Ace and Onyx measuring arms. Particularly on arms, especially larger arms capable of scanning parts up to 5m long, a 300mm laser line proves to be particularly valuable. And other techniques exist for larger or non-standard parts: leapfrog scanning, which involves moving the arm around the part to be measured, or Track Ace, a solution that combines the Ace arm with a laser tracker. Like other scanners in the Zephyr range, the Zephyr III 300 can be used on robots and machine tools, making it a versatile tool that guarantees optimal performance in various contexts and applications. Whether it is for part design or styling, production in the automotive industry, railway maintenance, sheet metal or boilermaking manufacturing, or supplying parts for the aerospace industry, the Zephyr III 300 is the ideal tool for conducting 3D inspection or reverse engineering on large-scale parts.

    5. OFS-RECYCLATENOZZLE TYPE RDSF

well suitable for processing non shear- and friction sensitive standard materials APPLICATION FIELDS:: The OFS-recyclatenozzle type RDSF paves the way to a sustainable circular economy and enables also a higher process reliability, plus cost reductions in the injection molding process. The filterinsert protects the hotrunner or the gate system against foreign bodies. The integrated mixinginsert ensures the optimal homogenization of the melt. The OFS-recyclatenozzle type RDSF he OFS-recyclatenozzle type RDSF is suitable for processing all unreinforced standard-plastics (e.g. PE, PP, ABS, PA). The nozzle is not suitable for processing thermally- and shear-sensitive plastics (e.g. POM, PVS, PC). Because of the special design, the nozzle has a huge filtration surface to a relatively small installation size. The size of the nozzle is dependent on the screw dia, the existing hotrunner / gate system, the material (MFI), the injection rate and the current pressure ratio.

    6. Our material-smart life cycle analysis – now with third-party certification

Our material-smart life cycle analysis – now with third-party certification

Polykemi’s sustainability specialists for polymers regularly give presentations about the scientific study that shows customers how they can reduce their carbon footprint. In order to further verify the objectivity of the study and the information that our specialists provide to our customers, we chose to have the study certified and validated by a third party. “The process of conducting a life cycle analysis (LCA) is complex and the results are based on the assumptions that were made. The third-party certification proves that our assumptions were correct,” explains Henrik Palokangas, our Sustainability Specialist for polymer materials. The third-party certification was carried out by ESU-Services, the competence center for the LCA software Sima Pro in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Lichtenstein. The excerpt below from their conclusions clearly validates Polykemi Group’s methodology. “The goal and scope are appropriately defined. The methods used are scientifically and technically valid. The data used are appropriate and reasonable in view of the goal and scope of the study. The report is complete, clearly structured, and well-readable. Conclusions and recommendations are based on the results of the analyses and complies with the requirements of the ISO standards 14040 and 14044”. “The result proves that the delimitations and assumptions that we made provide an accurate picture of the materials’ climate impacts,” says Henrik Palokangas. "Credibility is important to us. Our customers and partners need to know that when they work with Polykemi Group, they can trust in what we say.” “Thanks to Polykemi Group’s solid know-how in plastic compounds, based on both virgin and recycled raw materials, we can develop optimized materials in terms of climate performance, properties and costs. These are three parameters that go hand in hand when used correctly.,” says Palokangas.

    8. Pellets and dust – a problem?

Pellets and dust – a problem?

Innovation for the Highest Quality Standards in Plastics Processing At this year’s trade fair, we are presenting an innovative solution to optimize injection molding processes for optical and transparent plastic components. The focus is on the efficient dedusting of plastic granulate – a crucial factor for the quality of modern high-tech products. The production of optical components made from materials such as PMMA, PC, or advanced high-performance polymers requires maximum precision. Even the smallest impurities in the granulate can cause visible defects such as streaks, inclusions, or cloudy surfaces. These not only affect the appearance but also impair functional properties such as light transmission and refraction. The result: increased reject rates and inefficient production processes. Our solution addresses exactly this challenge. By using modern granulate dedusting systems, even the finest particles are reliably removed before the injection molding process. The systems can be easily integrated into existing production lines and installed directly at the machine. Optional integrated drying units further reduce residual moisture in the material, preventing additional quality defects. Practical tests under real production conditions show clear results: the use of dedusting technology significantly reduces the number of defects in optical components. This not only improves product quality but also sustainably enhances production efficiency. With this solution, we provide manufacturers in the plastics, medical technology, and optical industries with a powerful tool to meet increasing quality requirements while simultaneously reducing production costs. Visit us at the trade fair and discover how modern dedusting technology can elevate your production to a new level of quality.
