NIR detectable black masterbatch based on PCR carrier
The colouring of plastics using carbon black is a particular problem in the packaging industry. Modern recycling machines use NIR sensors for automatic plastic sorting. Carbon black pigments in plastics absorb NIR radiation, which greatly impairs detection and sorting by polymer type (PE, PP, PET, etc.).
NIR meets PCR
To improve recyclability in conjunction with the use of post-consumer recyclate (PCR), we have developed a new, carbon black-free masterbatch. The formulation of our AF-Carbon® PE 950938 NIR black PCR is based entirely on a PCR carrier material and enables reliable NIR detection with simultaneous black colouring of the end product.
The plastic can therefore be fed back into the recycling process and kept in the cycle for a second time.
