Ludwig Weinrich GmbH & Co. KG – Absorption Chiller for CHP Plant
Since 1895, the renowned Herford-based manufacturer Weinrich has been producing top-quality chocolate. Redeker Kältetechnik has been supporting the company highly successful development since 1970. Chocolate production requires refrigeration, air conditioning, and ventilation technology for many process steps. The combined heat, power, and cooling (CHP) plant, built in 2018, required an additional heat sink in the form of a purely thermally driven absorption chiller for energy-efficient operation.
Tasks:
• Utilizing waste heat from the CHP unit to generate chilled water for process cooling, air conditioning, and ventilation systems
• Integrating absorption chillers into the existing compression chillers via various transfer stations
• Utilizing the sprinkler system as an additional energy storage unit during partial-load production.
Scope of supply:
• Lithium bromide-based absorption chiller with a cooling capacity of 300 kW
• Cooling tower with EC fans and adiabatic auxiliary cooling. Cooling capacity 700 kW / Medium: Ethylene glycol
• Control cabinet with integrated industrial PC control and visualization
• Online access via remote desktop
• Pump and valve stations
• Plate heat exchangers / pumps / valve transfer stations for integration into existing compression refrigeration systems
• Compact heat recovery unit for utilizing residual heat from the return flow for domestic hot water heating in the mold washing system.
Operating experience:
For almost 12 months, the new absorption chiller has been operating flawlessly to the complete satisfaction of Weinrich GmbH. We are very pleased to have contributed to the success of the combined heat and power (CHP) system.
