    2. Innovative Cooling Tornado Z9665/… - Saving energy directly in the mould

Innovative Cooling Tornado Z9665/… - Saving energy directly in the mould

With the new HASCO Cooling Tornado, HASCO is providing an innovative solution for increasing efficiency and saving energy during the cooling of the mould. The Cooling Tornado Z9665/... offers a variety of application possibilities and can be used both in combination with runners in core cooling systems and directly in the corresponding cooling bores. Through the production of a turbulent flow, the effectiveness of the cooling is increased by up to 20 % (depending on the flow l/min). This turbulence interrupts the laminar lower layer of the cooling medium and has the effect that also the inner core of the cooling medium flows to the outer sheath, and thus considerably improves the heat transfer. Turbulent flow for efficient cooling The Cooling Tornado allows, through the turbulent flow, efficient cooling for shorter cycle times and the avoidance of hot spots, which ensures uniform temperature distribution. Compared with conventional cooling bores, temperature differences of up to 10 °C can be attained. The turbulence of the cooling medium leads to an energy saving of between 20 and 40 %. The Cooling Tornado allows easy retrofitting as well as the possibility of customised shortening, making for uncomplicated installation on existing systems. The installation itself is also extremely simple. The Cooling Tornado can be quickly retrofitted and is simply positioned and fixed at the end via a clamping ring. The mounting can both be carried out in combination with cooling pipes such as Z962/... for core cooling and also directly mounted in the cooling bores.

    3. Innovative Messtechnik für gleichzeitige Farb- und Glanzmessung

Innovative Messtechnik für gleichzeitige Farb- und Glanzmessung

The CM-36dG spectrophotometer is a high-precision and high-reliability benchtop instrument that can measure colors in either reflection or transmission, thus finding wide application in fields such as plastics, paints, ceramics, chemicals, etc. For the first time ever, Konica Minolta Sensing integrates an ISO 2813 compliant 60° gloss sensor into a benchtop spectrophotometer to simultaneously measure color and gloss values in the same location. Since both values are measured together, not only are sources of manual error reduced, but also valuable working time and money for additional equipment are saved. The CM-36dG utilizes patented and proven UV Numerical Control (NUVC), the unrivaled technology for UV adjustments when measuring samples containing optical brighteners such as pulp, paper, textiles or chemicals. Various other functions such as status LEDs or camera preview for sample positioning and reporting or the flexible port orientation (device can be used horizontally or rotated by 90°, for example to measure powdery materials in the "top port" style) complete the picture.

    5. Innovative Shadowfree technology eliminates shadow formations in valve gate systems

Innovative Shadowfree technology eliminates shadow formations in valve gate systems

In conventional injection moulding, undesirable, poorly flowing areas often occur in the hot runner due to roughness around the valve pin. This results in degradation reactions in the plastic melt and exceptionally long colour transitions. The new Shadowfree manifold concept from HASCO Hot Runner uses a revolutionary design to combat this problem. Uniform flushing around the needle The 3D-printed, screwed-on system effectively splits the material flow into streamlined channels to evenly flush around the needle and reunites them at the point where the valve pin enters the melt channel. Rigorous testing has shown that the system provides a rapid transition from black to white material in just 25 cycles, outperforming conventional valve gate systems by three to four times. In addition to the proven advantages of the Streamrunner, such as the elimination of dead spots, a particularly gentle material flow and thus a noticeable reduction in pressure losses, the Shadowfree technology now also offers a solution for extremely sensitive materials in terms of heat stability in combination with valve gate systems. With the additively manufactured Streamrunner®, HASCO started a new era in the world of hot runner technology. It was developed with state-of-the-art technologies for innovative future-oriented solutions. The compact and perfectly balanced Streamrunner ensures particularly gentle melt guidance in combination with excellent colour change characteristics. The leak-proof system is also particularly suitable for multi-cavity systems. Super-fast colour changes with valve gate systems The Streamrunner® Shadowfree is now well on its way to further revolutionising the manufacturing landscape. With up to 70% faster colour changes, the system enables material losses to be reduced and product quality to be increased. 6. Innovative tool for early assessment of the product carbon footprint in the product development of plastic components

Innovative tool for early assessment of the product carbon footprint in the product development of plastic components

Calculating the carbon footprint of injection moulded parts is an important basis for improving sustainability. Until now, determining the product carbon footprint (PCF) has often involved a great deal of effort and high costs. BARLOG Plastics has therefore developed a new calculation tool that makes it possible to estimate and optimise the PCF of plastic components at an early stage of development. Development engineers and sustainability officers can thus be supported both in product development and in rethinking existing plastic articles in terms of sustainability. The new PCF calculation tool is part of our existing "ECO-Consulting" service and offers a new resource for assessing and minimising thecarbon footprint of plastic products. By estimating the carbon footprint at an early stage with regard to material, production process (focus on plastic injection moulding) through to the transport of the product, this tool makes it possible to analyse and compare data bases for different product variants. With our new PCF tool, we are setting an important milestone in the direction of sustainable product development and offering our customers a data-based foundation for making their products more environmentally friendly. We are convinced that this tool will not only open the eyes of our customers to sustainable material alternatives, but will also accelerate the development process from the idea to the series production of individual components in the direction of more efficient and sustainable plastic products.

Infinite color variety for 3D printing - GRAFE develops varied silk gloss effect

With a broad spectrum of infinite color variations, GRAFE, Blankenhain, is bringing variety to the market for 3D printing applications and presenting this to its customers with a box. This contains ten basic colors, of which a white polymer blend acts as a carrier. “The silk effect or gloss only really becomes visible in 3D printing,” explains Lars Schulze, Head of Color Development and Material Sciences. “With the colors, we offer a tested base, the so-called silk effect with corresponding good printability and high gloss level.” The project was specifically developed to reproduce this noble gloss effect. Certain pigments’ selection avoids matting, leading to the highest gloss level. Two color combinations in a shapely vase look provide a preview for design inspiration. The two color models are presented in a high-quality box. A color table with 19 mixing examples is intended to serve as a stimulus among the infinite color combination possibilities and to represent the most diverse demands of users. It serves as an orientation and should make it possible to meet customer requirements quickly. In addition, the customer receives corresponding dosing suggestions. However, the presentation samples only provide inspiration for users because there are no limits to color fantasy with the basic colors, and the user can mix his colors creatively and achieve individual color shades. Up to now, there has only been a small choice of colors for high-gloss filaments on the 3D printing market. We want to change that with our expertise in coloring plastics and offer a basis for customization with our masterbatch,” explains Schulze. GRAFE has its own filament extruder and 3D printer in-house and can thus produce and test appropriate filaments itself. “In this way, we are able to try out our own developments. This significantly reduces development times, as the time-consuming testing process at the customer’s premises is no longer necessary,” says Schulze.
