Cost savings through the use of cleaning granules
(PresseBox) (Groß-Umstadt, January 23, 2025) Granula Polymer GmbH, which specializes in the development and production of patented, ready-to-use cleaning granules, provides information on a case study in which the customer GROHEDAL Sanitaersysteme GmbH was able to successfully save costs when changing colors by using the universally applicable cleaning granulate GranaClean UNI.
As part of a benchmarking exercise, the customer GROHEDAL compared a total of ten commercially available cleaning granules in the injection molding process. The evaluation criteria were the purchase price per kilogram of the respective cleaner, the effectiveness, the service and the environment and were weighted differently. The effectiveness was determined by evaluating the time required for cleaning, the amount of cleaning granulate required for cleaning and the degree to which the goal was achieved, namely a clean screw without residues of the previously used blue ABS. The environmental criterion took into account whether the cleaning granules contained ingredients that were hazardous to health or the environment. The criterion of effectiveness received the greatest weighting at 40%. The conclusion of the study showed that the company was able to record cost savings in the low four-digit range, solely by switching the cleaning granulate to GranaClean UNI. This cleaner does not require any exposure time and consists of a combination of chemical, mechanical additives and a propellant. In addition, it is ready-mixed and does not develop any unpleasant odors during production. More information can be obtained from the company. Granula Polymer also offers support in calculating savings potential during color or material changes or through regular maintenance of injection molding machines and extruders.
