The FDU (Flat Die Unit) was originally a development synergy project of various companies in the mouldmaking group HAIDLMAIR GROUP. Since 2019, a team of experts from the hot runner sector has been leading the newly founded FDU Hotrunner GmbH, taking care of sales and constantly developing innovations. The FDU is a wide slot die that optimally combines the advantages of injection moulding and extrusion technology. The flow channel in the nozzle is projected onto a flat nozzle. The plastic flows evenly distributed through a defined slot (instead of a point gate) into the cavity. This opens up new possibilities in the production of plastic parts. The advantages arise primarily from the optimized properties in terms of shear/heat, energy consumption, injection pressure, holding pressure and reduced cycle time. In terms of cycle time in particular, reductions of almost 20% have already been achieved in successfully completed projects. In addition, the maximum shear rate can be reduced by up to 60%, which is particularly useful for particularly shear-sensitive materials, such as: Biopolymers or recycled materials enable easier processing. The innovative hot runner system is manufactured in-house by skilled workers on state-of-the-art machines and optimally adapted to the respective mould specifications. Precise simulations ensure that the right FDU model is found for the respective application.
